The Indian film industry has expressed its sadness at the news that magnetic, courageous and cheerful Shammi Kapoor passed away in the early hours of Sunday due to complications of chronic renal failure after being admitted to Bombay's Breach Candy Hospital a week ago at the age of 79. His funeral will be taking place on Monday morning.
His bubbly and charming persona, which transpired throughout his film career from Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Teesri Manzil and Bluff Master to Junglee and many other screen delights, made Shammi Kapoor India's trademark hero during the 1950s and 1960s.
The original "Yahoo!" rebel, was a new technology and computer enthusiast who was quite active on the Internet, where he regularly interacted with fans and other actors through Twitter. He founded the Internet Users Community of India and maintained a website dedicated to his family, the legendary Kapoors.
Shammi was known and widely appreciated for his positive personality and his way of taking life with philosophy despite his illness, inspiring many around him.
He was once quoted saying that he was incomplete without Mohammad Rafi, when the latter passed away. The film industry can say the same about the young spirit of this veteran actor today.
